Indonesia: Inflation rises in May from April
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 3.1% in annual terms in May, following a 2.4% jump in the prior month and remaining within Bank Indonesia’s 1.5–3.5% target range.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were higher price pressures for housing, water, electricity and household fuels (+1.0% in annual terms vs +0.7% in April), transport (+2.3% vs +1.6% in April), recreation and entertainment (+1.3% vs +1.2% in April) and food, beverages and tobacco (+4.9% vs +3.1% in April). Finally, the variation in clothing and footwear prices was the same as in the prior month (+0.8% in May and April).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices increased 2.6% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 2.4% rise in the prior month.
Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.28% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.13% increase in the prior month.
