Hungary: Economic sentiment improves in October amid higher business and consumer sentiment
The GKI economic sentiment index, a composite indicator, rose to plus 2.5 in October from minus 0.5 in September, the best result since November 2019. October’s result was driven by stronger business and consumer confidence.
Business confidence increased to 8.7 in October from 6.5 in September, marking the strongest reading since May 2019. The print reflected a broad-based increase in sentiment in the industrial, services and trade sectors.
Meanwhile, consumer confidence improved to minus 15.2 in October from minus 20.3 in September due to households’ improved assessments regarding their own financial situation and the willingness to buy high-value consumer goods.
