Hong Kong: Inflation rises in December

Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 1.00% over the previous month in December, picking up from November’s 0.20% rise. December’s result was the highest reading since November 2015. The increase was largely due to a less pronounced drop in prices for housing. In addition, price pressures for utilities rose at a faster rate.

Inflation came in at 2.4% in December, which was up from November’s 1.9%. December’s result was the highest inflation rate since July. Annual average inflation rose to 1.6% in December (November: 1.3%).
