Guatemala: Economic activity eases in August

Growth in economic activity inched down to 3.7% year-on-year in August from a revised 3.8% in July (previously reported: +3.2% year-on-year). Economic activity in August was buttressed by growth in wholesale and retail trade; private services; manufacturing; and financial services.

On the other hand, annual average growth in economic activity edged down from 3.8% in July to 3.7% in August.

Banguat expects growth of between 3.0%–4.0% in 2020. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see growth of 3.1% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2021, our panelists predict growth to accelerate to 3.4%.
