Germany: Economic sentiment increases in December
Economic sentiment came in at 91.6 in December, up from November’s 89.2. December’s result marked the strongest sentiment since June. Consequently, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected healthier sentiment in the industrial sector and improved sentiment in the construction sector. Additionally, confidence in the services sector strengthened in December, while sentiment in the retail sector weakened in the surveyed month. Lastly, consumer confidence rose in December.
Relating to indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations improved, while the economic uncertainty index decreased in December.
