France: Industrial activity dips in September
Industrial output decreased 0.8% month on month in seasonally-adjusted terms in September (August: +2.7% mom). Looking at the details of the release, September’s drop was largely broad-based: Manufacturing plus mining and quarrying production all declined. Construction activity was the only subsector to increase in the month.
On an annual basis, industrial output rose at a faster rate of 1.8% in September (August: +1.5% yoy), the best result since February. Moreover, the trend improved, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at 0.1%, up from August’s 0.0%.
