Dominican Republic: Inflation eases in July from June
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 5.5% in annual terms in July, following a 5.7% rise in the prior month. The latest reading remained above the Central Bank’s 3.0-5.0% target range.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +7.0% in June), transport (+8.0% vs +8.4% in June) and housing and utilities (+1.8% vs +2.5% in June). Finally, the change in recreation and culture prices was the same as in the prior month (+2.2% in July and June).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices rose 5.0% on a year-on-year basis in July, stable from the prior month’s reading.
Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.19% in July in month-on-month terms, following a 0.51% rise in the previous month.
