China: Inflation rises in December
In December, consumer prices rose 0.3% from the previous month, up from November’s flat reading. The print reflected higher prices for food, tobacco and liquors as well as for transportation and communication.
Inflation inched up from November’s 1.7% to 1.8% in December. The print undershot the 1.9% that market analysts had expected. Annual average inflation, meanwhile, steadied at 1.6% in December.
Producer inflation fell from 5.8% in November to 4.9% in December. The print was slightly above market analysts’ expectations of 4.8% and represented the lowest level since November 2016. Annual average producer inflation fell from November’s 6.4% to 6.3% in December.
