Chile: Economic activity slows in June

August 5, 2019

In June, the IMACEC economic activity index rose 1.3% year-on-year, decelerating from May’s 2.3% result.

The print chiefly reflected lackluster activity in the non-mining economy, which slowed to 1.4% in June from 2.8% a month prior. In contrast, activity in the mining economy rebounded by 0.3%, after falling 2.3% in May.

In seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity saw no growth over the previous month in June, following a 0.2% month-on-month increase the previous month.

The Central Bank sees growth at between 3.0%–4.0% in both 2019 and 2020. FocusEconomics panelists project growth of 2.8% in 2019, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and 3.1% in 2020.
