March 5, 2019
According to the IMACEC index, economic activity rose 2.4% year-on-year in January, moderating from December’s 2.6% rise. The lower print reflected a 4.3% contraction in mining activity, contrasting December’s 0.5% uptick. Meanwhile, non-mining activity accelerated to 3.1% in January, after logging 2.8% a month prior, boosted by a buoyant service sector.
In seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity expanded 0.3% month-on-month in January, up from a 0.7% fall in December.
