Chile: Business confidence increases but remains in negative territory in April
The business confidence index came in at 41.4 in April, up from March’s 40.5. Despite the uptick, the index remained below the 50-point threshold, indicating pessimism among businesses. Uncertainty over global economic conditions, the domestic policy agenda and the outcome of the constitutional process have likely all weighed on business sentiment in recent months.
April’s rise was driven by improved sentiment in the mining sector. In contrast, sentiment in the construction, industrial and retail sectors worsened. All sectors except mining were in pessimistic territory.
