Chile: Business confidence deteriorates but remains in positive territory in October
Business confidence fell to 58.2 in October from September’s 60.7, amid rising cost pressures and election-related political uncertainty. However, the index remained entrenched above the 50-point threshold, separating optimism from pessimism among businesses.
In October, sentiment in the industrial sector deteriorated. In addition, sentiment in the retail sector soured, while the construction sector moved into pessimistic territory. In contrast, mining sector sentiment improved, potentially influenced by the successful conclusion of several wage negotiations and the consequent avoidance of prolonged strike action, as well as a surge in copper prices in the month.
