Brazil: Inflation hits over four-year high in March

Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.93% from the previous month in March, picking up from the 0.86% rise recorded in February. Looking at the details of the release, prices for transportation as well as for housing and utilities increased in March.

Inflation rose to 6.1% in March, above February’s 5.2%, marking highest inflation rate since December 2016. Annual average inflation rose to 3.6% in March (February: 3.3%).

Panelists participating in the LatinFocus Consensus Forecast see inflation closing 2021 at 4.0%, which is up 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2022, the panel projects inflation to end the year at 3.6%.
