Brazil: Inflation hits highest level since May 2019 in January
Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.25% in January over the previous month, moderating from the 1.35% increase recorded in December and marking the softest rise in prices since August 2020. Looking at the details of the release, housing prices dropped in January compared to the previous month, while prices pressures for food and beverages eased.
Inflation came in at 4.6% in January, above December’s 4.5%. January’s figure marked the highest inflation rate since May 2019. Annual average inflation was unchanged at December’s 3.2% in January.
