Belarus: Industrial output moderates to near two-year low in January

February 18, 2019

Industrial production growth decelerated to 0.9% year-on-year in January, down from December’s 1.3% expansion, logging the lowest reading in almost two years. In turn, annual average growth in industrial production decreased to 5.0% in January, from 5.7% the previous month.

The weaker annual print reflected flat growth in manufacturing activity and a contraction in water supply; waste management and remediation activities. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying, together with electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning supply, increased on an annual basis.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will expand 3.7% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2020, panelists expect industrial production to rise 3.8%.
