Austria: Harmonized inflation falls to lowest level since June 2022 in May
Harmonized inflation eased to 8.8% in May from April’s 9.4%. May’s reading represented the lowest inflation rate since June 2022. The moderation was largely due to milder rises in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport and recreation.
The trend was largely unchanged, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 10.1% in April up from 10.0% in May. Meanwhile, consumer price inflation fell to 9.0% in May, from the previous month’s 9.6%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices rose 0.15% over the previous month in May, below the 0.78% increase logged in April. May’s result marked the weakest reading since December 2022.
