Austria: Industrial output dips in January
Industrial output slipped into contraction in January, dropping 1.3% month on month in seasonally adjusted terms and contrasting December’s 2.8% increase. Looking at the details of the release, January’s downturn was broad-based and driven in large part by sliding capital goods and non-durable consumer goods output. In addition, the production of durable consumer goods fell at a sharper pace. Lastly, intermediate goods output expanded at a slower pace.
On an annual basis, industrial production fell 2.7% in January (December: +0.2% yoy). As a result, the trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 0.3% in January, down from December’s minus 0.1% reading.
