Angola: Inflation declines in January

Consumer prices in the province of Luanda rose 1.39% in January from the previous month, coming in above December’s 1.13% month-on-month increase. According to the National Statistical Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estatística), January’s print was driven by an across-the-board increase in all components of the index. Prices for education jumped the most, climbing 15.0% in month-on-month term, while communications came in last with a soft 0.15% increase.
Inflation moderated from 26.3% in December to 25.2% in January, the lowest print since March 2016. Lastly, annual average inflation declined from 31.7% in December to 30.5% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panel participants expect inflation of 21.1% in 2018, which is up 2.5 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2019, the panel foresees inflation of 14.7%.
