Economy gains steam in Q4

Poland’s economy picked-up pace in the final quarter of 2016, according to a preliminary flash estimate released by the Central Statistical Office of Poland. The economy grew 2.7% over the same period of the previous year, which was above the 2.5% expansion observed in Q3. The result overshot market analysts’ expectations of steady growth at Q3’s level. Q3’s figure had marked the worst growth rate since Q3 2013.

On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy expanded 1.7% in Q4, notably above Q3’s 0.4% increase and the best result since Q4 2007. More detailed data including a breakdown of GDP components will be released on 28 February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect that the economy will expand 3.0% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists foresee the economy growing 3.2%.
