Kenya Inflation May 2022

Kenya: Inflation rises further in May

June 14, 2022

Consumer prices rose 0.78% month on month in May on a seasonally-adjusted basis, down from April’s 1.69% increase.

Inflation jumped to 7.1% in May, up from April’s 6.5% and marking the highest rate in over one year. A double-digit annual rise in food prices was the key driver behind May’s inflation reading, although price pressures for housing, transport and fuels also increased at rapid paces. Consequently, annual average inflation rose to 6.2% in May from 6.1% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 6.2% in 2022, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, the panel sees inflation averaging 5.5%.
