Inflation in Tajikistan
Tajikistan - Inflation (end of period)Economic activity appears to have picked up steam in 2019. Soaring output in both the manufacturing and mining sectors propelled industrial sector activity. On top of that, agricultural production continued to increase at a solid rate last year; domestic trade and services activity increased robustly, driven by wholesale and retail trade growth; while exports rebounded in 2019, further cementing the upturn. On a less positive note, investment activity contracted slightly in 2019, reflecting an unfavorable investment climate and the slow pace of economic reforms. Meanwhile, in its Article IV consultation, the IMF called for greater fiscal consolidation, greater exchange rate flexibility, measures to strengthen the financial sector, and structural reforms to improve the business environment.
