Current account swings to deficit in April
The current account posted a EUR 0.5 billion deficit in April, swinging from a EUR 0.3 billion surplus in March (April 2021: EUR 0.9 billion surplus). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account surplus narrowed, coming in at EUR 6.5 billion in April (March: EUR 7.9 billion surplus).
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the current account balance to record a surplus of 1.2% of GDP in 2022 and 1.2% of GDP again in 2023.
