Exports in Slovakia

Slovakia - Exports
After the economy grew at the weakest rate in the Euro area in 2021, growth seems to have accelerated in Q1 2022, amid easing Covid-19 restrictions. That said, overall activity likely remained tepid in Q1, as auto production was down year-on-year in January–February owing to supply disruptions, while inflation hit the highest level in more than two decades in March. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is worsening these headwinds. Slovakia depends heavily on Russian gas and sources numerous auto components from both Russia and Ukraine. Heading into Q2, in April the government announced a EUR 260 million financial relief package. However, the package represents only around 0.2% of GDP and many of the measures will only be implemented from Q3 onward. This means that activity is set to remain weak in the near term amid the ongoing economic fallout of the war in Ukraine.Slovakia - Exports Data
