Azerbaijan - External Debt

Economic growth seems to have been sustained in the first two months of the third quarter, following a strong outturn in the first half of the year, according to incoming data. Economic activity remained healthy in July–August, seemingly supported by an upturn in the oil and gas sector offsetting a mild slowdown in non-oil and gas activity. Data suggests that higher oil and gas output underpinned sturdier industrial production growth in July–August, while higher investment in the oil and gas sector boded well for overall investment activity growth. Furthermore, stronger retail sales growth in same period points to improved consumer demand in Q2. That said, output growth in the agricultural sector appears to have lost traction in the same period. On the external front, export growth picked up in July–August, although it remained modest and was dwarfed by soaring imports.
