Unemployment in Brazil
Brazil's unemployment rate over the last decade has been volatile, reflecting the country's economic struggles and political changes. The rate began to rise significantly in 2015 due to a recession. The situation worsened with the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the unemployment rate moving further into double digits. Since the pandemic, unemployment has tumbled amid a period of strong economic growth, with the unemployment rate coming in below 7% in 2024—the lowest since 2014. The unemployment rate in Brazil averaged 10.8% in the decade to 2022, above the 8.2% average for Latin America. The unemployment rate in 2022 was 9.5%.
