Vietnam: Inflation remains steady in July

In July, consumer prices rose 0.11% from the previous month, contrasting a fall of 0.17% in June. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, higher prices for foodstuff, medicine and healthcare, and other goods and services were behind the upward movement.

Inflation remained stable in July, however, coming in at June’s 2.5%. Consequently, there were no changes in average annual inflation, which stayed put at June’s 3.9%.

Core consumer prices, which exclude food items, energy products and commodities, increased 0.11% in June, inching up from 0.10% in the previous month. Meanwhile, core inflation stood unchanged at 1.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 3.7% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. According to the panel, average inflation will accelerate to 4.1% in 2018.
