Vietnam: Inflation inches down in April

In April, consumer prices increased 0.02% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.19% drop recorded in March. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, higher prices for medicine and healthcare as well as for traffic were virtually offset by lower prices for food and foodstuffs as well as for housing and construction materials.
As a result of the flat monthly reading, annual inflation inched down from 6.7% in March to 6.6% in April. In addition, annual average inflation fell from 7.0% in March to 6.7%, the lowest level observed since July 2010.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panellists expect headline inflation to average 8.1% in 2013, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month's forecast. According to the panel, average inflation will accelerate to 8.2% in 2014.
