Vietnam: Growth in industrial output eases in January

February 9, 2016

In January, industrial output rose 5.9% over the same month last year, which marked a deceleration over the 9.0% rise recorded in December. The reading came on a contraction in mining and quarrying which constrained a softer expansion in the three remaining components.

Industrial production in December declined 2.6% over the previous month, which contrasted with the 3.5% rise observed in December. As a result of the monthly decrease, annual average growth in industrial production slipped from 10.0% in December to 9.0% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants estimate that industrial output will grow 10.0% in 2016, which is up 0.6 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect that industrial production will expand 9.8%.
