United States: Consumer confidence increases in December

December 30, 2021

Consumer confidence rose to 115.8 in December from 111.9 in November. Consequently, the index remained above the 100-threshold, separating optimism from pessimism among consumers.

The increase came on the back of weaker pessimism in consumers' assessments of the future economic situation, while views of their current situation was relatively unchanged in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to rise 3.8% in 2022, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and growth of 2.5% in 2023.
