United Kingdom: Industrial production rises in February

April 10, 2019

Industrial production rose 0.6% in February over the prior month according to the Office for National Statistics, following January’s revised 0.7% increase (previously reported: +0.6% month-on-month). February’s figure was driven by expansions in the manufacturing; and mining and quarrying subsectors, while the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning; and water supply subsectors contracted over the previous month.

Industrial production eked out a 0.1% expansion in annual terms in February, contrasting January’s 0.3% decline. Annual average growth in industrial production declined from 0.7% in January to 0.5% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see the industrial sector remaining weak going forward, and project that industrial production will increase 0.1% in 2019 and 0.8% in 2020.
