United Arab Emirates: Inflation edges down in June

July 23, 2015

In June, consumer prices rose 0.31% over the previous month, which followed the 0.26% increase observed in the previous month. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, June’s figure mainly reflected higher prices for housing, food and soft drinks as well as for recreation and culture.

Inflation edged down from May’s 4.3% to 4.2% in June. May’s result had marked the highest rate since February 2009. Despite June’s decrease, annual average inflation increased from 3.3% in May to 3.4% in June, marking the highest rate on record.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to be at 3.0% in 2015, which is up 0.4 percentage points over last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel sees inflation rising to 3.4%.
