Thailand Inflation July 2021

Thailand: Inflation drops to lowest level since March in July

August 5, 2021

Consumer prices fell 0.12% in July over the previous month, contrasting the 0.38% rise seen in June. The reading was primarily driven by falling prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, while price pressures for housing and utilities fell at a faster pace due to government measures to reduce energy bills.

Inflation eased to 0.5% in July, markedly below June’s 1.2% and marking the lowest inflation rate since March. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation ticking up to 0.3% in July (June: 0.2%). Lastly, core inflation fell to 0.1% in July, from the previous month's 0.5%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see inflation returning in 2021, with consumer prices rising 1.2%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast, while in 2022 panelists predict average inflation of 1.2%.
