Switzerland: Retail sales stagnate in November

January 9, 2020

Calendar-adjusted real retail sales were flat in annual terms in November, down from October’s revised 0.4% reading (previously reported: +0.7% year-on-year). Lower clothing and footwear sales were offset by higher sales of food, beverages and tobacco.

On a month-on-month seasonally-adjusted basis, real retail sales declined 0.1% in November, contrasting October’s 0.7% expansion.

FocusEconomics panelists expect private consumption to increase 1.0% in 2020, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and 1.2% in 2021.
