Switzerland Inflation July 2019

Switzerland: Inflation slumps in July

August 2, 2019

Consumer prices fell 0.5% over the prior month in July, down from June’s flat reading. The print was driven largely by lower prices for clothing and footwear due to seasonal sales, as well as transport and package holidays.

Inflation fell from 0.6% in June to just 0.3% in July, while annual average inflation was stable at June’s 0.8% in July.

Against this backdrop, panelists polled by FocusEconomics expect inflation to remain relatively anemic over the medium-term and see inflation averaging 0.6% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast, and averaging 0.8% in 2020.
