July 11, 2019
The consumer price index (CPI) decreased 0.1% in June compared to the previous month, contrasting the 0.3% increase in May. Lower prices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and clothing and footwear, weighed on the CPI in June. CPI inflation slowed to 1.8% in June from 2.2% in May. Core CPI inflation, which excludes volatile energy costs, moderated to 1.7% in June from 2.1% in May.
CPIF inflation—which is inflation based on a fixed investment rate and is closely followed by the Central Bank—slowed to 1.7% in June from 2.1% in May, a notch below the mid-point of the Central Bank’s 1.0%–3.0% tolerance band. Core CPIF inflation accelerated to 1.9% in June from 1.7% in May.
