Spain: Current account surplus shrinks in January

March 29, 2019

Spain’s current account balance recorded a deficit of EUR 1.5 billion in January, which was wider than the EUR 0.6 billion deficit recorded in January 2018 and significantly more so than the EUR 4.1 billion surplus recorded in December 2018. Moreover, in the 12 months leading up to January 2019, the current account balance reached a surplus of EUR 10.4 billion, well below the EUR 11.3 billion surplus recorded in the 12 months leading up to December 2018.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the current account balance to record a surplus of 1.0% of GDP in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast, and 0.9% of GDP in 2020.
