Slovakia: Inflation rises in August

In August, consumer prices increased 0.1% over the previous month, contrasting a drop of the same magnitude tallied in July. The increase mainly reflected a 0.9% price increase in the housing category. Annual headline inflation increased from 3.7% in July to 4.0% in August, the fastest pace since May. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) rose from 2.7% in July to 2.9% in August. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 4.1% this year before moderating to 3.3% in 2012.
