Poland: Consumers close Q2 on a softer note

July 19, 2019

Nominal retail sales rose 5.3% year-on-year in June, coming in below May’s 7.3% jump. June’s expansion was broad-based, with the fastest increases recorded for sales of textiles, clothing, footwear; pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopedic equipment; and other retail sales in non-specialized stores.

Consequently, annual average growth in nominal retail sales moved down to 7.4% in June from 7.8% in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 4.1% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2020, the panel sees private consumption growing 3.4%.
