Poland Business Confidence October 2020

Poland: Business confidence sours in October

October 23, 2020

Manufacturing-sector business confidence came in at minus 9.7 in October, down from September's minus 6.2. As a result, the index remained below the 0-threshold, separating pessimism from optimism among businesses.

October’s downturn largely came on the back of firms’ more negative assessment of the future general economic situation as well as their personal financial situation. In addition, their future expectation of order books, production levels and employment also turned more pessimistic compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, firms’ perception of the current economic situation, order books and production levels turned less negative than in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to fall 7.8% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. For 2021, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 4.8%, which is down 0.6 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
