Peru: Inflation ticks up in August

Consumer prices in Metropolitan Lima fell 0.11% from the previous month in August, contrasting July’s 0.46% increase. Augusts increase was principally driven by lower food and drink costs, partially offset by a rise in transport, housing and utilities and healthcare prices.

Inflation dropped to 1.7% in August from 1.9% in July, thus moving further away from the midpoint of the Central Banks 1.0–3.0% target. Meanwhile, the trend paused its recent downward trajectory, with annual average inflation coming in at 1.8% in August, equaling Julys figure. Core inflation, also remained unchanged from July, clocking 1.8% in August.
