Peru Business Confidence August 2020

Peru: Business sentiment ticks up in August, but remains in pessimistic territory

September 3, 2020

Business confidence increased to 38.0 in August, up from July’s 35.0 as firms continued to react positively to the easing of lockdown measures in recent months. However, the indicator still came in well below the 50-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among firms.

Firms’ reported broad-based gains in August, with views regarding their sector, future demand for their products, and the company’s financial situation all improving.

In wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the LatinFocus Consensus Forecast sees fixed investment plunging 24.9% this year, which is down 1.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2021, fixed investment is seen recovering and growing 13.2%.
