Panama: Consumer prices fall in August

Consumer prices dropped 0.3% over the prior month in August, contrasting the 0.2% increase registered in July. The decline was driven by sharply lower prices for transport and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

Meanwhile, consumer prices fell 0.6% on an annual basis in August, following the 0.3% decline in July. Growth in annual average inflation was flat in August, down from 0.2% in July.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end this year at 1.0%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and to end at 1.6% in 2020.
