Netherlands Business Confidence September 2020

Netherlands: Business confidence rises to six-month high but remains pessimistic in September

September 29, 2020

Business confidence rose to minus 4.8 in September from August's minus 5.4, marking the best result since March. Consequently, the index moved closer to the 0-threshold, but still indicated pessimism among businesses.

September’s improvement largely reflected manufacturers’ less negative views on the order position and a more optimistic perception of their stock of finished products. Meanwhile, their assessment of expected output deteriorated compared to the previous month.

Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment contracting 5.1% in 2020, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2021, the panel expects fixed investment to increase 2.9%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
