Mexico: Economic activity accelerates in September

Economic activity grew 2.1% in September from the same month a year earlier, picking up from the 1.8% year-on-year expansion logged in August. According to INEGI, September’s reading was driven by gains in the services sector.

On a month-on-month basis, economic activity rose 0.4% in seasonally-adjusted terms, contrasting August’s flat reading.

Banxico expects growth of 1.8%–2.8% next year. Panelists participating in the LatinFocus Consensus Forecast expect growth of 2.1% in 2019, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2020, growth is projected to pick up to 2.2%.
