Lithuania: Inflation edges up in July

August 9, 2019

Consumer prices fell 0.3% month-on-month in July, following a milder 0.2% drop in June, and marking the strongest contraction so far this year.

A breakdown of the sub-components provided by Statistics Lithuania showed that just 2 of the total 12 sub-components saw a fall in prices, led by considerably lower prices for clothing and footwear, which more than offset higher prices for recreation and culture; hotels, cafés and restaurants; and food.

Meanwhile, inflation edged up from 2.5% in June to 2.7% in July. In a similar fashion, harmonized inflation ticked up to 2.5% in July from 2.4% in June. Lastly, annual average inflation remained stable at 2.4%, where it has been since February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 2.3% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2020, the panel sees inflation at 2.4%.
