Korea: Business confidence picks up but remains pessimistic in December

Business confidence in the manufacturing sector rose to 81.0 in December from November's 76.0. December's result marked the strongest reading since May 2018. As a result, the index moved closer to the 100-point threshold, but still indicated pessimism among businesses.

Both domestic and export-oriented firms became less pessimistic in December, while views on sales and profitability grew less gloomy.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to rise 2.5% in 2021, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2022, the panel expects fixed investment to grow 3.0%.
