Kenya Inflation August 2020

Kenya: Inflation remains stable in August

August 31, 2020

Consumer prices rose 0.20% in seasonally-adjusted month-on-month terms in August, accelerating from July’s 0.08% increase. August’s reading largely reflected higher prices for transport, restaurants and accommodation services. The increase was partially offset by lower prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, and education.

Inflation remained unchanged from July’s 4.4% reading in August, still at its lowest rate since September 2019. Annual average inflation dropped to 4.9% in August from July’s 5.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 5.5% in 2020, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2021, the panel sees inflation averaging 5.2%.
