Kenya: Inflation increases in October

In October, Kenyan consumer prices rose 0.62% over the previous month, coming in above the 0.35% increase observed in September. October’s rise mainly reflected higher food prices along with price increases in several other categories.

Inflation edged up from 6.3% in September to 6.5% in October. The figure remained within the Central Bank’s inflation target range of 5.0% plus/minus 2.5 percentage points. Annual average inflation remained at the previous month’s 6.5% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 6.3% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2017, the panel also expects average inflation of 6.2%, which is also unchanged from last month’s projection.
