Kenya: Inflation comes in at highest level since January in September

Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.32% in September over the previous month, accelerating from August's 0.23% rise. September's uptick was the highest reading since April. Looking at the details of the release, transportation prices rose in September after dropping in the previous month, while price pressures for housing, utilities and fuel picked up pace.

Inflation came in at 6.9% in September, which was up from August’s 6.6%. September's reading was the highest inflation rate since January. Annual average inflation edged up to 6.4% in September (August: 6.3%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 5.9% in 2021, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2022, the panel sees inflation averaging 5.5%, which is also up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
