Indonesia: Retail sales bounce back in February

Retail sales increased 2.6% compared to the same month a year earlier in February, which contrasted January’s 0.6% decrease. The reading reflected a broad-based upturn, with activity in the food, beverages, and tobacco, motor vehicles, parts and accessories and automotive fuels sub-sectors all improving in February. Lastly, cultural and recreation goods sales decreased at a sharper rate, while information and communication equipment sales fell at a steeper pace than in the previous month.

Meanwhile, annual average retail sales growth fell to 3.9% in February (January: +4.7%). This signals a worsening trend in the retail trade sector.
